Service animals

You are welcome to bring your service animal to a Corvus Homes stay. You do not need our permission, you do not need to tell us in advance, and there is no fee. This page sets that out plainly, so you never have to wonder about it before you book.

A service animal is not a pet

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, a service animal is a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. A service animal is not a pet, and nothing we say about pets applies to one. The ADA makes a separate, narrower provision for miniature horses — if that is what you travel with, get in touch and we will work through it with you.

What that means when you book

• No fee, no deposit, no surcharge. We never charge anything for a service animal.
• No advance notice, no approval. You do not have to ask us, tell us, or be approved before you arrive.
• No breed, size, or weight limits. None of them apply to a service animal.
• Your animal goes where you go. Your service animal is welcome anywhere our guests are welcome.

You are very welcome to mention it ahead of time if you would like to — some guests do, and it lets us point you at the nearest grassy spot before you arrive. But that is your choice, never a condition of your stay.

What we will and will not ask

If it is not obvious what your animal does for you, there are only two questions we may ask:

• Is the animal required because of a disability?
• What work or task has it been trained to perform?

That is the entire list. We will not ask about your disability, ask for documentation, papers, an ID card, a vest, or a certification of any kind, or ask your animal to demonstrate its task.

What we ask of you

Your service animal is your responsibility while you are with us. We ask that it is housebroken, and that it stays under your control — by leash, harness, voice, signal, or whatever the two of you use.

There are only two situations where we would ask that the animal not remain in the home: if it is out of control and you are not able to take effective action, or if it is not housebroken. Even then you are still our guest — we will still host you, and we will help you sort out arrangements for your animal.

As with any guest, if an animal causes actual damage to a home we may charge for that damage — on exactly the same basis, and at the same rates, as we would charge any other guest for damage.

Dogs live at our Evergreen home

Three dogs live at the Evergreen Mountain House. It is a hosted home and they are there full time. That matters if you are traveling with a working animal, and it matters if you have an allergy or a fear of dogs, so we would rather you knew before you booked than after you arrived.

A baby gate can close off the entire downstairs, so the dogs cannot come into the guest area at all. Beyond that, we have not published where else in the home and on the property the dogs go, or how far ahead we can keep them apart from a working animal. An assistance animal that is not a service animal

Emotional-support animals, comfort animals, and therapy animals are not service animals under the ADA. That does not mean the answer is no. Which rules apply can depend on the home and on how long you are staying, and we would rather look at what you actually need than turn you away on a technicality.
